He was Mayor of Manchester, but is now Andy Burnham, is the MP for Makerfield. But what policies do we know he is passionate about, and is he strong enough to be Prime Minister?
He is an MP with no mandate. His excuse for not calling a general election is that he will use the 2024 Labour mandate to work with.
There has been a lot of speculation about what policies he will use. The media has something new to say on this subject every day.
He had a major speech in which he was not prepared to take questions from the press. He left by the back door, and only carefully arranged interviews were allowed. This is a bit wrong because if you have things to say, don’t be scared of the press.
Conservatives claimed: “This is a man who is frit, running scared of public scrutiny.”
He also could be a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Everyone has pushed for Keir Starmer to be removed, as he has not led the Labour Party properly. But the dislike of Keir was so bad that Andy Burnham came along at the right time.
But taxes will rise and strangle people even more. Andy Burnham does have an agenda for our tax system, but again it’s speculation till he is in power.
With Andy set to be the leader of the Labour Party this week and with no opposition, we hope that the country gets a PM that works for us and not for others,
With subjects like immigration, the cost of living and security being top of the list, will he rise to the challenge, or will Labour continue to fail in its manifesto policies?
What the country doesn’t need now is another weak Prime Minister who uturns on policies when he gets the gidders.
It’s now for Andy Burnham to win over the UK population because it’s not going to be given. Trust is earned, and he will rise to the challenge.
